Two Artists are Bringing U District Mobility Hubs to Life
This summer, temporary public art will transform how it feels to arrive, wait, and move through the U District Link Light Rail station area — a joint pilot from the U District Partnership and the Seattle Department of Transportation.
The U District station was chosen as a priority pilot site for its high ridership and its role as a gateway to campus, small businesses, and the neighborhood. This work is part of SDOT’s broader Community and Mobility Hubs program — a vision for spaces where getting to transit feels welcoming, joyful, and easy to navigate. The goal here: make getting to, from, and waiting for transit feel a little more welcoming, intuitive, and joyful.
Artists Christy Caravaglio and Alex Nason were chosen by a panel of representatives from The U District Partnership, Seattle Department of Transportation, and the community for their responsiveness to the project’s goals, feasibility, and creative strength.
Meet the Artists
Christy Caravaglio
Renton, WA
Fiber Art / Public Installation
Christy Caravaglio is a fiber artist living in Renton, WA. Since 2018 she has been making yarn art in public spaces, often on chain link fences, with the intention of creating moments of surprise and joy. Christy has received 25 commissions for her yarn installations in 10 cities including Seattle, Edmonds, Renton, Auburn, Las Vegas NV, and Selma AL.
Alexandra Nason
Seattle, WA
Murals / Community-Centered Public Art
Alex Nason is a Seattle-based artist and arts administrator working across murals, multimedia, and community-centered public art. Her practice is driven by a belief in the transformative potential of creativity—not only as a form of visual expression, but as a way of connecting with ourselves, one another, and the world around us. She is the creator of The True Butterfly Effect, an evolving participatory public art initiative taking flight through a growing series of public butterfly garden installations.
