Ambassador Program: Working with Businesses, Visitors and Residents

The UDP launched the Ambassador Team in July 2017. Our Ambassadors work Thursday-Sunday assisting visitors, residents, workers and homeless individuals. They provide directions to visitors, aid our unsheltered population, and consults with businesses on security issues.

The Business Block Watch brings neighbors together to communicate and defend against crime. The Block Watch provides access to the private online tool used for monitoring and reporting crimes in the University District neighborhood.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Reviews

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) looks at how a building is designed and used from a crime prevention standpoint and how designs can be modified to reduce the likelihood of crime. Educating people on how to report suspicious activity and how to prevent crime to themselves and their property are an important part of our work and The UDP offers CPTED reviews, free of charge, to anyone within the UDBIA

Partnerships with Local Law Enforcement and Fire Department

The UDP coordinates information and activities supporting local law enforcement officers to stem crime in the area. This Includes working with them to identify hot spots and concerns, come up with ways to tackle these issues, and partner with innovative programs like Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD).

Mental Health Outreach

The U District Business Improvement Area (UDBIA) and U District Partnership (UDP) partner with Evergreen Treatment Services to bring the REACH mental health outreach program to Seattle’s University District. REACH provides a full-time Outreach Care Coordinator dedicated who builds relationships with members of our community who need addiction and mental health services and connects them to services in the community.

Clean & Safe Committee

The UDP hosts a public Clean and Safe Committee meeting the second Thursday of most months from 12:00-1:30 pm at the University Heights Center to discuss strategies of preventing and ways of reporting cleanliness issues.
