Embracing Investment, Building a Stronger U District Economy

Seattle’s University District, or the U District, is one of the city’s fastest-growing and most dynamic neighborhoods. Since 2010, its residential population has surged 47%, outpacing both Seattle and King County overall. The neighborhood’s landscape is evolving rapidly: nearly 60 new real estate developments have come online since a 2017 upzone, with dozens more in the pipeline, creating space for the growing number of people, businesses, and investments drawn to this vibrant hub of learning, culture, and community.

As one of Seattle’s most walkable, transit-rich neighborhoods and home to over 560 businesses, the U District hums with energy and opportunity. Anchored by the University of Washington, it blends historic architecture with bold new construction and iconic local businesses with fresh, innovative ventures. To support this momentum and ensure the neighborhood remains a place where business and innovation thrive, The U District Partnership provides a range of resources and programs for economic development.
